TWAMP (Two-Way Active Measurement Protocol) is based on the OWAMP (One-Way Active Measurement Protocol). It offers a method for measuring two-way or round-trip metrics between two network elements. It uses time stamps at the reflector for greater accuracy. There are two inter-related protocols: TWAMP-Control and TWAMP-Test. TWAMP-Control is used to initiate, start, and stop test sessions, whereas TWAMP-Test is used to exchange test packets between two TWAMP entities.
